Drueding Center, located in North Philadelphia, celebrated its 37th year in 2024. Their mission is to help break the relentless cycle of poverty for young homeless families in our community by focusing on two generations. The families bear the scars of significant traumas both in childhood and as adults, in addition to their homelessness.
In 1987, seeking to serve the most vulnerable families, the Sisters of the Redeemer founded Project Rainbow. The organization later took the name Drueding Center to reflect the charitable leadership of Bernard Drueding Jr. and his family in growing this project.
Their holistic approach offers real hope for a productive, meaningful future for once-homeless families with complex problems. Drueding Center directly addresses the multifaceted issues of inadequate education, unemployment, substance abuse, domestic violence, and insufficient childcare.
As the first Philadelphia program to provide both transitional housing and comprehensive support services to young families, Drueding Center has become a tangible expression of Holy Redeemer Health System’s commitment to families and an embodiment of its mission: to care, comfort, and heal.
They take in families, support and work with them, and help them heal to ensure that all these families one day have the skills and resources necessary to live independently and reach their individual measures of success.
